Shifting the focus: Sudan on the edge of change

Mohammed Zakaria is a founding partner of Dar Media for artistic production, a photographer and film director. He is interested in creating and publishing content around issues like peace and racism. He is currently working on a video series, "Darfur in 3 Minutes”. He will use his training to enhance his skills.

Glenn says: “A Kunin Twareg tribal dance was the subject for Mohammed Zakaria. After a year of war in Sudan, a rapid scale up of response is needed | MSF

Port Sudan/Darfur – In one of the world's worst crises for decades, Sudan is facing a colossal, man-made catastrophe, one year after the start of the war between the government-led Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). It is a matter of life or death for millions of people to urgently enable safe humanitarian access. Sudan civil war: The children living between starvation and death in Darfur

The woman with sad eyes and a quiet voice is just one of the millions of people living in camps for those forced to flee their homes in Sudan, where a civil war broke out a year ago between the army and an armed paramilitary group. The country now faces what the UN says is the "world worst hunger crisis".

Sudan: Attacks based on ethnicity may amount to war crimes

Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and rival military group the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which erupted in mid-April, has left thousands dead or injured, and displaced more than a million.

Communities also continue to face severe shortages of food, access to medical supplies and restricted movement out of conflict areas, while allegations of sexual violence against women and girls have emerged.
