Shifting the focus: Sudan on the edge of change

The culture of the nomads was shown in an all-action picture with the colour of the background emphasised by the plain white costume of the dancer. It again creates a story, but it is challenging and asks questions I don’t know the answer to – I like that. Why is the crowd only women and children? A very well taken image.”

Sudan civil war: The children living between starvation and death in Darfur

The woman with sad eyes and a quiet voice is just one of the millions of people living in camps for those forced to flee their homes in Sudan, where a civil war broke out a year ago between the army and an armed paramilitary group. The country now faces what the UN says is the "world worst hunger crisis".

"We need a massive mobilisation of humanitarian aid to reach the population that is cut off," says Mr Hussein, as well as access with "permits and visas to be simplified and the borders to be

Millions of Sudanese go hungry as war disrupts food supply

CAIRO - A mother who skips meals so there is enough food for her two children. A 60-year-old man who eats one meal a day – a lump of dough made of flour and water. People venturing out from their homes in a desperate search for food at the risk of being hit by artillery shells.

Dozens of accounts like these gathered by Reuters show how many people are going hungry in parts of Sudan worst hit by the war that erupted last April, including areas in the capital Khartoum and in the western region of

Inside the Darfur camp where a child dies every two hours

Everyone knows a family that has lost a child in Zamzam, a camp for hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Sudan’s Darfur region. Hunger and disease have become grim features of daily life, and a child is dying in the camp every two hours, according to the medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and rival military group the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which erupted in mid-April, has left thousands dead or injured, and displaced more than a million.

About Me

I am Mohamed Zakaria, a photojournalist and filmmaker dedicated to highlighting humanitarian issues and addressing them through art. My work focuses on telling stories that reflect the human challenges in Darfur, with the goal of presenting them in ways that promote peace and coexistence.

I am a CEO and co-founder of DAR Production, a media company specializing in documenting humanitarian issues and preserving cultural heritage through video production, photojournalism, and documentary filmmaking. We empower local communities in Darfur by providing specialized training in filmmaking, photography, and storytelling, enabling them to share and preserve their rich cultural traditions.

In addition, I am the founder of Voices of Darfur, a project dedicated to amplifying the voices of those affected by the conflict in Darfur, and raising awareness through impactful storytelling.

I have worked with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to document the humanitarian situation in North Darfur during the conflict, producing compelling audiovisual content that highlights the challenges faced by displaced populations and the critical work of MSF.

During the conflict period, I collaborated with BBC News as a journalist and photographer, covering the crisis and providing in-depth reporting from the ground.

Currently, I am working with Wall Street, assisting in the preparation of reports on Sudan, covering events, conducting interviews, and verifying open-source information.
